There is a huge wave of retro motorcycles in India since a large chunk of riders want to return to the basics of simple-looking machines that offer brisk if not an adrenaline-rushing performance. Currently, Royal Enfield dominates this segment hands down but other players in this space are trying to make their mark.
That said, these motorcycles come with a slightly hefty price tag. Therefore, let us take a look at the five retro motorcycles that fall under the Rs 3 lakh budget mark and worth your consideration.
1. Royal Enfield Classic 350
Ex-showroom Price: Rs 1.98 lakh — 2.32 lakh
Whenever one thinks of a proper modern classic, the Royal Enfield Classic in most cases is the first bike you picture. Ever since it was first launched in 2008-09, the bike has had an indomitable presence in the market. Powered by a 349cc air/oil-cooled engine, it is a no nonsense motorcycle aimed to deliver pure motorcycle pleasure. The new-gen model launched in 2021 is also much better built with a better quality finish.
2. Jawa 350
Ex-showroom Price: Rs 1.98 lakh — 2.30 lakh
Classic Legends launched the heavily updated Jawa (popularly known as Jawa Classic or Jawa Standard) as the Jawa 350 last year. Out of all the modern classic bikes on sale today, the Jawa 350 has to be the most retro of them all. So, if anyone wants a motorcycle with a proper retro design the Jawa 350 is the one to go for. Also, the current iteration of the Jawa 350 is far better and refined than its predecessor in every way possible.
3. Honda CB350 H’Ness
Ex-showroom Price: Rs 2.10 lakh — 2.15 lakh
Whenever it comes to smooth and refined engine performance, there is no match for a Honda. So, when Honda decided to take the bull (Enfield) by its horns it had a very strong product which delivered good performance, good looks, and a well-balanced ride quality. Unfortunately, flawed marketing and sales decisions meant the CB350 H’Ness couldn’t achieve the glory it was supposed to. Nevertheless, it is a very good purchase if you are in the market for a modern classic.
4. Jawa 42 FJ
Ex-showroom Price: Rs 2.01 lakh — 2.22 lakh
If you want retro mixed with sporty, then Jawa 42 FJ turns out to be a very potent choice for buyers. Powered by a 334cc liquid-cooled engine, the Jawa 42 FJ is the most powerful bike in this space. The neo-retro roadster is very attractive on the eyes and falls well within the budget.
5. Royal Enfield Hunter 350
Ex-showroom Price: Rs 1.50 lakh — 1.81 lakh
For those, who want to own a 350cc Enfield but not fond of the old-school design of the Classic and Bullet, can opt for the Hunter 350 that offers a perfect blend between retro and modern, making it very pleasing to the eye. Not just to the eye, the Hunter is also pleasing to the pockets as well with easily the lowest starting price in this segment. Again, a no non-sense motorcycle but compared to the Classic, the Hunter 350 has a very stiff rear suspension. Hence, it’s not as comfortable as the latter.
