BMW issues recall for R18 and R18 Transcontinental

BMW has issued a recall for the R18 models owing to a faulty headlight reflector mount that may break under usage.

BMW Motorrad has issued a recall for the R18 and R18 Transcontinental in the US market, for motorcycles made between 2021 and 2024. This accounts for over 2000 units of the cruiser, while no recall has been announced for India, as the motorcycles are on sale here as well.

BMW says that the recall is for defective attachment points for the headlight, which may break and cause the headlight reflector to fall, leading to loss of illumination and blinding oncoming vehicles, both being dangerous situations.

BMW says that one way of detecting the problem before it occurs is a rattling noise from the headlight unit. Also, the German motorcycle maker has not come up with a solution for it yet and says customers will be notified as soon as the company has one. The fix is likely to be free of charge.

As for the models sold in India, BMW has not issued a recall and given India’s road conditions, the headlight reflector would give up sooner. We urge customers to check with the local dealership in this regard and stay tuned for further updates.
