Barely a few hours after reports of Ather naming their upcoming family scooter as ‘Diesel’ surfaced online, things took a rather hysterical turn. Tarun Mehta, CEO and Co-Founder, Ather Energy, has come out and cleared the air about the forthcoming e-scooter.

While the scooter was developed under the project Diesel, it wasn’t going to carry the same nameplate. In fact, Mehta on his latest social media post confirmed that the upcoming scooter will be named ‘Ather Rizta’ and will be launched later this year. The social media post was accompanied by a short teaser video of the same.

Ather Rizta teased

The video imitating an ultrasonography teases an image of the scooter on the ultrasound monitor. The clip then moves to revealing that the scooter will be launched within the next six months and also revealing its name– Ather Rizta. Mehta informs in his caption that the Bengaluru-based EV brand will unveil the upcoming e-scooter at Ather Community Day Celebration 2024.

Although very little is known about the Rizta, from the couple of times it has been spotted testing, it is clear that Ather now wants to target an audience looking for a family scooter in the battery-powered segment that offers convenience and practicality. The spy shots revealed that the scooter will flaunt a completely different design from the current Ather 450s.

It is also set to feature  a wide and flat floorboard and generous real estate for the seat which will check the criterias mentioned above. Mehta further reveals through his Tweet that the Rizta “has been on and off the table since 2019”. We can expect Ather to offer two battery pack options with the upcoming Rizta. It could also offer a 7.0-inch ‘DeepView’ LCD instrumentation – first introduced on the 450S.
