Alzheimer’s surpasses heart disease to become Australia’s No. 1 cause of death in 2024
Dementia has become the top cause of death in Australia, overtaking ischaemic heart disease. Deaths from dementia have increased by 160% since 2006, mostly affecting those over 75. Women account for 62.4% of dementia-related deaths due to longer life expectancy. By 2065, it is estimated that there will be 1 million cases of dementia in Australia.
