Similar to its elder sibling, Rexton, the Mahindra-SsangYong Tivoli could also be assembled locally to achieve a competitive pricing.
Launched in January 2015 in Korea, Mahindra SsangYong Tivoli might make its India debut at the upcoming Auto Expo in February 2016. Mahindra & Mahindra owned Korean brand had imported a couple of units of the compact SUV earlier this year, and has already started testing it on Indian soil. One such test mule was recently spotted by a reader of an Indian automobile blog – MotorBash – in Bengaluru.
Taking its design cues from SsangYong XIV-Air and XIV-Adventure concepts, the Tivoli is based on SsangYong’s new design philosophy which certainly renders it a better look than other SsangYong vehicles on sale currently. Though there is no clarity about the engine options it will get in India, it is likely to carry the same 1.6-litre petrol & diesel engines that power the Korean and Europe-bound models
Mated to a 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission, the 1.6-litre diesel engine of the SUV is good for 113bhp and 300Nm. The 1.6-litre petrol engine, on the other hand, develops an impressive 126bhp and 160Nm. In its home market, the petrol model is available in both manual and automatic gearboxes.
Similar to its elder sibling, Rexton, the Mahindra-SsangYong Tivoli could also be assembled locally to achieve a competitive pricing. Upon its launch the Tivoli will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster.
