What do Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy, L&T’s Chairman, and Elon Musk have in common? No, it’s not their billions or their love for tweeting (okay, maybe just Elon). It’s their shared belief in working longer hours than a caffeinated droid on a deadline. While these corporate titans preach the gospel of hustle, let’s talk about the other end of the spectrum — a man who’s redefining “work-life balance” in the most chaotic way possible.
Enter our highwayman. While the corporate world is drowning in stress, anxiety, and underpaid overtime, this guy decided to take “chill” to a whole new level. A viral YouTube video shows him lying on a national highway as cars whiz past at 100 kmph. Forget work-life balance, this man is living life on the edge, quite literally.
Shocking Kamikaze behaviour: My way or the highway
Let’s talk about some jaw-dropping stats that’ll make you think twice before hitting the road. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, India saw 155,600 road fatalities in 2021. And if that’s not enough to make you clutch your steering wheel tighter, last year Piyush Tewari of the SaveLIFE Foundation dropped another bombshell at a World Economic Forum event, India leads the world in road deaths, with 250,000 fatalities annually.
Now, with these alarming numbers staring us in the face, imagine our surprise when we stumbled upon a man who decided to treat a national highway like his personal living room. While most of us are dodging potholes, stray animals, and wrong-side drivers, this gentleman thought, it’s a good idea to take a nap on the highway.
A video uploaded by Nikhil Rana on YouTube, captured by a dashcam, shows the man lounging comfortably on the left lane, the slow lane, as cars zoom past at over 100 kmph.
Our take on highway loungers
There is a slim chance that you might come across a guy lying on the road like it’s his personal yoga mat, but if you do, don’t stop. Stopping could land you in a scam, a carjacking, or worse. We recommend contacting the relevant authorities immediately to report such an incident. If possible, record the event using your mobile phone or dashcam, but only if it doesn’t compromise your safety on the road. Later, you can share the footage with the authorities for further investigation.
