Toyota announced its entry into the electric vehicle (EV) space by previewing the Urban SUV concept last year. This concept is based on the same platform as the Maruti Suzuki eVX concept which is slated to take its final shape in early 2025. A recent media report has thrown more light on the upcoming Toyota electric SUV.
According to Autocar India, Toyota will launch the production version of the Urban SUV in India in the latter half of 2025. The report reveals that Toyota will launch its first EV six months after Maruti has launched its own version of the electric SUV.
This means that the production version of the Urban SUV concept will hit showrooms in India by September-October 2025. The Urban SUV concept made its debut at Toyota’s annual Kenshiki forum in Brussels, Belgium earlier in December 2023. It shares plenty of common attributes like exterior panels, interior trims, and specs with the Maruti eVX concept.
Toyota Urban SUV concept: Dimensions & design
The SUV measures 4,300mm long, 1,820mm wide and 1,620mm tall, which are similar to its Suzuki counterpart. Both models are also expected to share the same 2,700mm wheelbase. As far as styling goes, the Urban SUV concept borrows visual cues from Toyota bz4x including sleek LED headlamps with sealed-off nose featuring a gloss black panel. A thin LED stripe runs across the bonnet.
Another highlight is a trapezoidal front bumper housing large air dams and side skirts. The rear end features a very contemporary connected LED setup with wraparound taillights, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a chunky bumper. Overall, the silhouette remains identical to the Suzuki eVX with a crossover-ish profile, squared-off wheel arches, and a receding roofline.
Toyota Urban SUV concept: Expected features & specs
While interiors of Toyota Urban SUV concept are still kept in the dark, the cabin is expected to wear the same look as Suzuki eVX. Common features in both models will include a twin-screen setup consisting of a fully digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system.
Like eVX, the Urban SUV Concept is based on the same Suzuki’s 27PL skateboard platform and is expected to be offered in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. Although Toyota is yet to reveal the exact specifications, it is expected to be equipped with a battery pack with a capacity of around 60kWh which should translate to over 500 km single-charge range. A smaller 48kWh battery for the entry-level variants is also expected to be available which could return almost 400 km single-charge range.
