It recently came to light that MG Motor will bring the Wuling Cloud EV to India as the Windsor EV. Termed as a compact utility vehicle (CUV), the Windsor is most likely to be slotted above the Comet EV and below the ZS EV in the company’s India lineup. Earlier this year, the Chinese-owned British carmaker also filed patents for the same in the country.

The compact EV is also the first all-new model coming out in the market since Jindal Steel Works (JSW) joined hands with MG Motor. Ahead of its undisclosed launch date, MG has kickstarted its promotional campaign on social media, teasing the upcoming battery-powered UV and its features.

MG Windsor EV teased

The latest teaser from the carmaker reveals that the Windsor will boast of Aero-Lounge seats in the second row with 135° recline which will be a segment first feature. This feature will attract buyers who love to be chauffeured but who look for a compact car. The short clip emphasises on a comfortable in-cabin experience with padded seats wrapped in quilted leatherette.

The video indicates that the all-black cabin has plenty of space to offer and three individual headrests for the passengers. Other highlights visible from the teaser are rear AC vents, ambient lighting across door trims, contrast gold touches, and a flat floor. Like previous teasers, the video also highlights the car’s crossover silhouette although the company has kept the design under wraps for now.

In one of the earlier teasers, a test prototype of the Windsor EV wrapped under camouflage is seen undergoing challenging mountain trails in Ladakh highlighting its off-road capabilities, although it is unlikely that the CUV will benefit from an all-wheel drive setup. The other highlight visible from the latest teaser is the sleek LED tail strip which will give the car a distinct identity.

MG Windsor EV: Rebadged Wuling Cloud EV

As mentioned earlier, the Windsor EV will be based on the Wuling Cloud EV which is sold in China. So we expect most of the design of the Cloud EV to be carried over to the India-spec Windsor. The upcoming CUV’s design takes cues from the Cloud EV, featuring a sleek split headlight design accompanied by connected LED DRLs.

The side profile boasts a clean and minimalist aesthetic, with flush door handles and 18-inch alloy wheels adding to its modern appeal. The charging flap is discreetly located on the side, below the A-pillar. At the rear, the CUV sports a roof spoiler and connected LED tail lamps, creating a cohesive and futuristic look. To further distinguish its design, the CUV features blacked-out pillars, expansive quarter glass, and a panoramic roof, resulting in a sophisticated and premium appearance.

MG Windsor EV: Expected Specs

The Windsor EV is expected to offer two battery options, catering to different customer needs. The entry-level Windsor variant is likely to feature a 37 kWh battery pack, providing a driving range of approximately 360 km. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line model will boast a more robust 50 kWh battery, delivering an extended range of up to 460 km.

Dimensionally, the Windsor is bigger than the Nexon EV as well as the Mahindra XUV400. It is built on a spacious platform, with a 2700 mm wheelbase, and measures 4295 mm in length, 1850 mm in width, and 1652 mm in height, making it a substantial vehicle in its class.
