Mahindra launched the Thar Roxx almost a month back but the SUV is yet to go on sale officially. Available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions, the company is yet to announce prices for the latter. Test drives for the Thar Roxx have now begun officially as units of the rugged body-on-roll SUV start reaching showrooms across the country.
Official bookings for Mahindra Thar Roxx will open on October 3, with deliveries scheduled to commence from Dussehra 2024 (October 12). Mahindra offers the Thar Roxx in six trims namely MX1, MX3, MX5, AX3L, AX5L, and AX7L with prices starting at Rs 12.99 lakh for the petrol version and Rs 13.99 lakh for the diesel variants.
Token amount for the bookings is expected to range between Rs 20,000-25,000. Mahindra offers the Thar Roxx in seven colour options namely Deep Forest, Everest White, Tango Red, Battleship Grey, Nebula Blue, Burnt Sienna, or Stealth Black.
Mahindra Thar Roxx features & powertrain specs
Mahindra has equipped Thar Roxx with all the bells and whistles including a 10.25-inch digital instrument console, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, a 9-speaker Harman Kardon-tuned sound system, and panoramic sunroof. Safety package comprises features such as six airbags as standard, a 360-degree camera, and advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).
There are two engine options on offer with the Mahindra Thar Roxx: a 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol unit and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel unit. Both engine options are offered in two states of tune. The petrol motor kicks out 160 bhp and 330 Nm of peak torque in the lower variants whereas in the higher variants this motor delivers 175 bhp and 380 Nm of torque.
Similarly, the oil burner pushes out 150 bhp and 330 Nm of torque in the lower variants and 173 bhp and 370 Nm of torque in the upper variants. Both motors are paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Mahindra will also offer the option of 4WD exclusively with the diesel powertrain.
First Mahindra Thar Roxx to be auctioned
Mahindra is continuing its tradition of auctioning the very first unit of a new vehicle with the Thar Roxx Previously, the three-door Thar was also auctioned when it made its debut in late 2020 and it fetched a whopping Rs 1.11 crore. The very first Thar Roxx will carry the VIN 0001 registration plate. Registration for this VIN has already begun online. Proceeds from the auction will be donated to a non-profit organisation of the winner’s choice.
The bidding will begin on September 15, 2024 at 5 pm online and will end at 7 pm the next day. The winner can choose between these four non-profit organisations:
- Naandi Foundation (Empowering Girls and Women)
- BAIF Development Research Foundation (Watershed and Rural Livelihood Development)
- Watershed Organization Trust (Integrated Water Resource Management and Agriculture)
- UNITED WAY MUMBAI (Promoting Road Safety)
Besides the ‘0001’ VIN, this auctioned unit of Thar Roxx will also boast of a badge with Mahindra & Mahindra Group Chairman– Anand Mahindra’s— signature on it. It will be based on the top-spec AX7L trim and will be powered by the diesel mill paired with an automatic transmission. It will also get the 4×4 drivetrain.
