Kia Sonet facelift debut tomorrow: All you need to know

Kia Sonet will continue to rival subcompact SUVs like Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, and Hyundai Venue.

Kia will be unveiling the facelifted Sonet tomorrow (14 December 2024). This will be the first  major update to the subcompact SUV ever since it was  launched in August 2020. Ahead of its debut, the Korean carmaker has been actively promoting the upcoming car on its social media handles by teasing some of its specific attributes.

The latest teaser video highlights its updated exterior styling while also setting a reminder for its unveiling scheduled for tomorrow. Besides the updated design, the new Sonet will also receive some additional features and new colour schemes over the outgoing model.

Kia Sonet facelift: Variants & Colour options

The facelift Sonet will come in seven different trims — HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, GTX+ and X-Line. 

Kia will offer 11 colour options including the new Pewter Olive and Xclusive Matte Graphite. The latter is only available in the X-Line. There are eight monotone options — Pewter Olive, Glacier White Pearl, Sparkling Silver, Gravity Grey, Aurora Black Pearl, Intense Red, Imperial Blue and Clear White. Two dual-tone colours are Intense Red/ Aurora Black Pearl and Glacier White Pearl/ Aurora Black Pearl.

Recent teasers revealed the updated front fascia of the upcoming Sonet featuring revised LED headlamps, DRLs and fog lamps. In addition, we get a glimpse of its rear end which gets new vertically-oriented LED taillamps with pixelated treatment instead of the current wraparound units. A light bar across the tailgate’s width connecting the two taillights is retained.

Further, the rear bumper has also been tweaked slightly, housing revised reflectors. Also, the roof-mounted spoiler looks more prominent this time.

Kia Sonet facelift: New features

Interior layout of Sonet remains largely similar to the existing model barring the feature additions. For starters, the fully-digital instrument console gets new graphics and layout featuring twin virtual dials for speedometer and odometer. Other notable feature additions are four-way electric power driver seat, paddle shifters and front ventilated seats, and a seven-speaker Bose audio system.

In this iteration of Sonet, Kia has focussed on improved safety. Hence, the company has introduced a Level 1 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite that comprises feature such as Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning and Avoidance Assist, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, etc.

Other safety enhancements include disc brakes on all four wheels from HTX onwards, six airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC, VSM, rear parking sensors, emergency brakes, tyre pressure monitor system, etc.

Kia Sonet facelift: Powertrain options

2024 Sonet will retain its multiple engine and transmissions from the current model. The entry-level variants will be powered by the 1.2-litre NA petrol with 82 bhp and 115 Nm and mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Then there is the 1-litre turbo with an output of 118bhp and 172 Nm and two transmission options— a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and a 6-speed clutchless manual. 

The Sonet will continue to offer a 114bhp 1.5-litre diesel engine with 250 Nm and will offer either a 6-speed clutchless manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission options.
