At the heart of the Japan Mobility Show 2025, a new electric vehicle prototype was born. Japanese automaker Honda unveiled the 0 α (Alpha), an electric SUV concept that will serve as the entry model to its next-generation 0 Series line-up. Embodying the design philosophy of ‘Thin, Light, and Wise’, the 0 Alpha not merely a show car, but a showcases Honda’s electrification strategy.
Minimalist design
The car has minimalist aesthetics, a departure from Honda’s current design language. Developed on the ‘Thin’ approach, the 0 Alpha has a low vehicle height for sleek styling, while maintaining ground clearance, giving it the wide stance of an SUV.
At the front, the illuminated Honda emblem, sleek headlamps, and the charging port are unified. The rear continues this sleek theme with a U-shaped LED light strip. Overall, the 0 Alpha looks clean, uncluttered, and futuristic. While the production version will look slightly different, it will embody more or less similar design – it will look ‘Light’, not bulky.
Starting from Zero
It’s not a traditional internal combustion engine car that has been turned electric, but is a born-electric car – developed on a dedicated EV architecture for the 0 Series. This approach maximises cabin space and battery efficiency. The ‘Wise’ element of the design means integration of next-generation technologies, such as AI-powered advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and connectivity services.
Detailed specifications
While Honda hasn’t shared technical specifications such as battery size, range, or variants, the 0 Alpha will go on sale in India and Japan starting in 2027, and is likely to be exclusively made in India.
Competitors
It will be positioned slightly above the Elevate SUV, and therefore it will compete with Tata Curvv EV and Hyundai Creta EV, and even Mahindra’s electric SUVs.
Asimo reborn
Asimo, Honda’s famous humanoid robot, will also be in the 0 Alpha, but in a different form. Honda’s new vehicle operating system is called ASIMO OS. This software is the core of Honda’s Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) concept for the 0 Series. It is designed to manage and integrate all of the vehicle’s intelligent technologies. It will control automated driving (ADAS), help control vehicle dynamics for a responsive and sporty driving experience, will run the vehicle’s multimedia and infotainment systems, will learn the user’s preferences, driving patterns, and behaviour, making the car increasingly personalised over time. It will also be capable of over-the-air (OTA) software updates. The Indian model of the 0 Alpha, however, will likely get entry-level variants without the ASIMO OS, to keep costs in control.
