The long-awaited Datsun rediGO hatchback will be launched in the Indian market in May 2016, confirms our sources. First unveiled as a concept at the Auto Expo 2014, the production-ready version of the hatchback will become the most affordable product in Datsun India’s lineup.

The Datsun rediGO will be based on the same CMF-A platform that underpins the Renault Kwid. For people not in the know, this platform was jointly developed by Renault and Nissan. Besides the platform, the rediGo will also borrow the 0.8-litre, three-cylinder, petrol engine from the Kwid. While the platform and engines will be shared, the Datsun rediGO will have an entirely new design based on the original concept.

With high ground clearance, raised shoulder line, chunky wheel arches and plastic cladding around the body, the Datsun rediGO will have a crossover-ish look. Nissan’s low cost car brand is working on a sub-compact SUV as well – Datsun GO-Cross, which made its India debut at the recently concluded Auto Expo 2016. Set to be launched early next year, the Datsun GO-Cross will be built on the existing GO hatchback platform.
