BMW iX1 electric SUV launched in India at Rs 66.90 lakh– Volvo XC40 Recharge rival

In India, the all-electric BMW iX1 competes against the likes of Volvo XC40 Recharge, C40 Recharge, and Kia EV6.

BMW has launched the new iX1 electric SUV in India at an introductory price of Rs 66.90 lakh (ex-showroom). As the name suggests, the iX1 is based on the X1 and is the German brand’s entry-level SUV model in its electric vehicle (EV) lineup. The all-electric SUV is a fully imported model brought to the country as a Completely Built Unit.

Since it’s based on the X1, the design is almost identical to its petrol and diesel-powered sibling barring a few cosmetic differences. For example, the iX1 gets an ‘i’ on the front grille to differentiate it from the ICE vehicle. It rides on 18-inch M light alloy wheels and is available with four paint schemes including grey, silver, black and white.

Visual highlights such as the signature BMW kidney grille flanked by adaptive LED headlights, a sculpted roof-mounted spoiler, a large surface diffuser, and L-shaped LED taillights have also been lifted from the ICE-powered X1.

Inside the cabin, the interior layout of the iX1 remains identical to X1 with highlights such as a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment embedded with BMW’s latest iDrive OS, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument console. The interiors are finished in  Aluminium ‘Mesh Effect’ with chrome highlight accents with M Sport leather wrapped around the seats, steering wheel, and door pads.

It gets a healthy boot space of 490 litres. Other features on offer include a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, front seats with massage functions, dual-zone climate control, six-mode ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive LED headlights, and automatic tailgate operation. Safety package on iX1 includes features like ABS, ESP, traction control, parking assist, and ADAS.

Powering the iX1 is a twin-motor setup– each motor powering one axle– developing a combined peak output of 309 bhp and 494 Nm torque. The motors derive their energy from a  66.4kWh battery pack that returns a claimed range of 440 km on a single charge. As for performance, the iX1 can sprint 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.6 seconds while it can clock a top speed of 180 kmph.

Using a standard 11kW AC charger, the iX1’s battery can be charged from 0-100 percent in 6.3 hours. With a 130kW DC fast charger, the battery can be charged from 10-80 percent in just 29 minutes.
