Honda Motorcycles and Scooters had earlier showcased its adventure motorcycle Africa Twin at the 2016 Auto Expo. After a long wait though the company has finally started the trial production of the motorcycle. It is expected that HMSI is planning to launch the much-awaited motorcycle soon in India and will be sold through the CKD route. The adventure motorcycle is powered by a 998cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke unicam 8-valve parallel twin engine, that produces 94 hp of power and 98 Nm of peak torque. The engine might get a standard manual gearbox or Honda’s exclusive 6-speed Dual clutch automatic transmission.
The Africa Twin gets 310mm dual wave hydraulic disc at the front and 256mm wave hydraulic disc at the rear with 2-channel ABS with an option to switch off the ABS at the rear wheel during off-roading. The motorcycle rides on a 21 inch wheel at front and 18 inch wheel at the rear. It gets features such as rally windscreen and Honda Selective Torque Control (HSTC) with three setting depends on the conditions, while the HSTC can also be turned off.
HMSI is aiming to double its growth in this financial year, as the company is planning to sell 6 million units in FY2017-2018. In order to achieve this target the manufacturer will launch two new motorcycles and two new scooters and a new facility in Karnatka. The company will invest Rs 1,600 crore this year in order to push its expansion plans.
