Aprilia showcased its sporty scooter SR 150 at the Auto Expo in February, 2016, and has now announced a Rs 65,000 price tag for it. The scooter's sales will commence from August, 2016 and will be locally manufactured at the company's plant in Baramati, Maharashtra. Before the scooter hits the showrooms next month, we tell you three key things that set the SR 150 apart from other scooters.
-
Design: The Aprilia SR 150 features a sporty design with a chiseled and aerodynamic bodywork. The large 14-inch wheels and exposed telescopic forks give it a sporty character that other scooters lack in the market lack right now. The front handlebar has turn signals integrated neatly, lending a futuristic look to the front. The rising tail and the vacant space between the rear wheel and the tail section further accentuate the sporty design of the SR 150. The instrument console is the only contemporary-looking thing on the scooter with an analogue layout. While a digital console would've gone along better with the scooter's character, the competitive price tag would've mandated some cost-cutting measures.
-
Engine: The SR 150 will be powered by a 150 cc SOHC air-cooled engine, developing around 11 hp of peak power. Further details about the engine are awaited but given the focus on performance, do not expect segment-leading fuel-efficiency from it.
-
Ride Experience: This is one area that is expected to totally set the SR 150 apart from other scooters in the market. With telescopic front forks and a monoshock unit at the rear, there certainly seems no compromise in offering a dynamic setup for the scooter. The large 14-inch wheels wear 120/70 section tyres, which are considerably larger than the usual sizes in the market. Brakes comprise of a 220 mm disc at the front and a 140 mm drum at the rear. The combination of wider tyres, rear monoshock and front disc brake are clear indicators that the SR 150 is designed to appeal to those who enjoy riding.
