Nissan India on Friday said it is in the process of setting up smaller dealerships across the country, particularly in tier II and III cities, to create awareness and promote the Datsun brand .

Guillaume Sicard, the president of Nissan India Operations, who was here to launch Datsun Go+ — a compact family wagon and an MPV — said: “Unlike SA, Russia and Indonesia, where it got tremendous response, the brand in India lacks awareness. Only one in 10 people is aware of the Datsun brand. We need to promote the brand in a big way.”

“We came out with a new concept of smaller outlets and have started 10 such centres. Interestingly, all these outlets were successful in terms of numbers. Though these outlets were opened to serve both Datsun and Nissan brand cars, the focus was on Datsun. We have now decided to spruce up the number of such outlets to 100 by 2016,” said Sicard. By end 2015, the company will have a total of 160 outlets against 125 now, he said. The company is also working on a smaller car under CMF-A platform (common module family) as its alliance partner Renault India is set to launch a new car under this platform this year, he said.
