The Maharashtra government is all set to launch its app-based taxi service soon, which aims to break the monopoly of Ola and Uber. The new transport service for passengers includes taxis, auto rickshaws, and even two-wheelers. The state transport minister officially said that this new app service will be an affordable alternative to Ola and Uber, and other private companies. This will also create job opportunities for the youth.
What is the new Maharashtra app-based transport service?
The state government is finalising the name of the app, and many titles have been floated. There are a couple of shortlisted names like Jai Maharashtra, Maha-Ride, Maha-Yatri, or Maha-Go, but it will be finally approved by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar.
Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik confirmed to news agency ANI that the app is currently being developed with the help of Maharashtra Institute for Transport Technology (MITRA) and other private technology companies. The minister further stated that the D-Day for the final review of the app is August 5 at Mantralaya. MLA Praveen Darekar and tech experts will review the app’s functions on August 5.
Job opportunity boost for the youth
The new government-run app aims to create jobs for the unemployed, especially for the youth. Sarnaik said, “This scheme will empower thousands of young men and women across Maharashtra, enabling them to become self-reliant.”
According to a Hindustan Times report, the Mumbai Bank will offer unemployed youngsters who are interested in registering for this app service car loans at a 10% interest rate. Furthermore, government agencies like the Annasaheb Economic Development Corporation, Vimukta Jati Corporation, OBC Corporation, and MSDC will offer an 11% interest subsidy, essentially making the loan interest-free for eligible applicants.
The new passenger transport service app will also offer bike taxi services, and the transport department is on the verge of finalising the rules and regulations.
