The much-awaited Honda BRV compact SUV is all set to launch in the country on May 5, 2016. Prior to its launch, Honda has revealed its engine specifications and features at a media drive event. The India-spec BRV will come with two powertrains – 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel – and two transmission options – a new 6-speed manual and CVT automatic with first-in-segment paddle shifters. While the former develops 118bhp at 6,600rpm and 145Nm of torque at 4,600rpm, the latter one offers 98.6bhp at 3,600rpm against 200Nm.
Mileage figure of the Honda BRV diesel stands at 21.9kmpl, which makes it the most fuel-efficient car in its category. On the other hand, the BRV petrol MT & AT deliver a claimed mileage of 15.4kmpl and 16kmpl respectively. Interestingly, Honda offers FWD (front-wheel drive) with both the powertrain options.
Coming to features, the top-end trim of the BR-V comes loaded with all comfort and safety equipment including Bluetooth telephony and audio streaming, push button start, automatic climate control, steering-mounted audio buttons, anti-lock braking system, etc. Honda offers dual airbags as standard across all variants of the car. The Honda BR-V comes with seven-seat configuration that gives it an advantage over rivals like Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster.
In terms of dimensions, the Honda BR-V is longer, wider and taller than its competitors. This compact SUV measures 4,453mm – 4,455mm in length, 1,735mm in width and 1,666mm in height. It has best-in-class ground clearance of 210mm. The BR-V also offers the most spacious cabin in its league, thanks to its long wheelbase (2,662mm). Despite being a 7-seater, the car offers a decent 223-litres of boot space, which can be increased up to 691-litres by folding the third row of seats.
