Royal Thunderbird X has been launched in the Indian two-wheeler market and is being hailed as a very fresh outlook to the traditional Royal Enfield motorcycles. However, while it promises a young new appeal, it also retains the age old authentic RE standards. It will be on sale alongside the standard Thunderbird 350 and 500 motorcycles, hence, here's a look at what makes the Thunderbird 350X and 500X so different from the rest of the lineup:
-
Some features on board the new Royal Enfield Thunderbird X twins set them apart from not only the standard Thunderbird, but also other RE bikes. First being the colour options. While we saw candy coloured Royal Enfield Classic motorcycles, but the paint job on the Thunderbird X is even brighter and peppier. There are four colour options available for both Thunderbird 350X and 500X combined, namely Drifter Blue, Getaway Orange, Roving Red and Whimsical White.
-
The other new feature is the alloy wheels. The last we saw alloy wheels on a Royal Enfield was back in 1980s. Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X and 350X will come with blacked out alloys, engine, exhaust and other components that further enhances the bright coloured fuel tanks.
-
Royal Enfield says that the inspiration for the Thunderbird X comes from custom build motorcycles. Since Royal Enfield Thunderbird owners tend to modify their bikes, Royal Enfield incorporated the philosophy of custom building at the factory level.
-
Besides the paint job and alloy wheels, Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350X and 500X have been fitted with a new handlebar, which is slightly lowered. While the brand says the new handlebar will maintain the same level of comfort and will also allow a more engaging riding style.
-
Thunderbird X twins will have the same instrument cluster as the standard bikes. The engines will be shared with the standard Royal Enfield Thunderbird. While the Thunderbird 350X will be powered by a 346cc single-cylinder engine that makes 20.7 hp and 20 Nm, the Thunderbird 500X is mounted with a 499cc, air-cooled, single cylinder engine that produces 26.8 hp and 41.3 Nm.
-
While the design of the Royal Enfield Thunderbird X motorcycles has been based on custom builds, the brand says they will still have the same potential to be customised. Royal Enfield will also have additional accessories on offer, such as a fly-screen or rear backrest. Retail price of the Thunderbird 350X is Rs 1.56 lakh and the Thunderbird 500X sells at Rs 1.98 lakh (prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).
