Skoda Kodiaq SUV is the latest SUV to join the increasing line-up of SUVs in Indi and the segment is now spoiled with choices. Both Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour have been doing well in the Indian market for a while now and Skoda Kodiaq is now the most premeium offering costing more than Tiguan, Endeavour and Fortuner. Skoda Kodiaq is offered on in one diesel engine variant and is priced at Rs 34.49 lakh (ex-Delhi). Volkswagen Tiguan that shares its platform with Kodiaq is available in two variants priced between Rs 27.49 – 30.87 lakh (ex-Delhi), Ford Endeavour starts at Rs 25.08 lakh (Ex-Delhi) and Toyota Fortuner is avaialble in both petrol and diesel engine options and the price starts from Rs 25.71 lakh and 27.27 lakh (ex-Delhi) for petrol and diesel variants respectively.

Skoda Kodiaq measures 4697 mm in length, 1882 mm in width, 1665 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2791 mm with a ground clearance of188 mm. The SUV is longer and taller than Volkswagen Tiguan but shorter in length when compared to Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. Skoda Kodiaq is sold only in one 2.0L diesel engine variant with five colour options. The engine is powerful than that of Fortuner and Tiguan and sheds a power of 148 hp almost similar to that of Endeavour. Skoda claims a mileage of 15.25 kmpl on the Kodiaq SUV.

Skoda Kodiaq follows Skoda's global cystaline design language that we have seen on the Skoda Superb and Skoda Octavia. The DRLs on the Kodiaq are a bit more angular than that of in Superb giving it a differnt look and the fog lamp cluster is placed right below the headlapm cluster. There is ample boot space on the seven-seater SUV and can extend to give a space of over 2000L by folding the second row and third row seats. Skoda Kodiaq features a 8-inch infotainment system that supports Apple Car Play, Android Auto and Mirror Link. The second row-seats get rear A/C vents and a lot of utility storage space.

Volkswagen Tiguan is based on the same MQB platform that underpins the Skoda Kodiaq but is a 5-seater SUV and looks a bit more compact than the Kodiaq or any other SUV in this segment.The Tiguan does have its own design identity and gets aggressive styling elements. The trademark restrained design language of Volkswagen means the car has few simple lines making the car look clean and matured. Inside, the interiors of Volkswagen Tiguan are finished in all black and the touch-screen infotainment system supports both Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Volkswagen Tiguan gets the same 2.0L TDI diesel engine as in Skoda Kodiaq but tuned to shed a power of 140 hp and 340 Nm of torque mated with a 7-Speed DSG.

Ford Endeavour SUV has been one of the most liked vehicle in this space and the new generation that debut in India in 2016 is offered in two diesel engine options. The 2.2L TDCi diesel engine sheds a power of 118 Kw and the 3.2L TDCi diesel engine produces a max power of 147 Kw. The tall stance and increased width ensures a spacious cabin and gets easy features like electric power fold 3rd row seats, rear-view parking camera with sensors. Like the other SUVs in this segment, Ford Endeavour gets Hill launch assist, Hill descent control and different driving modes.

Toyota Fortuner is one of the most sold SUVs in the Indian market and the new generation Fortuner that was launched last year boasts morden looks and is based on a new stonger frame chassis. The headlamp cluster gets sharp bi-beam LED headlamps and at the read the Toyota Fortuner gets LED lights guides with aero fins. Both the diesel and petrol engine get the option of different driving modes and both manual and 6-speed sequential automatic transmission. The diesel engine has a displacement capacity of 2755 cc and has a torque of 450 Nm on the automatic gear box.

Skoda Kodiaq is assembled in India at Volkswagen Group's plant in Aurangabad. Local assemble has helped the company to bring down the cost on the vehicle but is still the most expensive SUV in the segment. However, the company is very confident on its sales and is looking to end the year in India with over 30% sales growth over last year. The company said that India is a very important market for Skoda globally and with after the Kodiaq it is also looking to bring in more global SUVs into the Indian market. Skoda Auto India has also invested over Rs 100 crore to upgrade its dealerships. Skoda is also considering to bring in its karoq SUV to India. Globally, Skoda Karoq replaces the SKoda Yeti.
