A considerable shift in trend has been noticed lately in the Indian car scenario. SUVs have always been liked by consumers here, but with growing congestionon the roads, small cars that look like SUVs have begun to make more sense. Cars like Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, that provide SUV practicality and hatchback ease, have been a rage in our market. Following is a comparison of specs amongst four such compact crossovers, including the latest one from Honda, the WR-V.

Ford EcoSport: The Ford EcoSport is a compact SUV which is powered by a 1.5 litre diesel engine, 1.5 litre petrol engine and 1.0 litre booster jet engine. The engine also complies BS4 emission norms and mated to 5-speed transmission for the larger capacity petrol motor and the diesel engine. The 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine has a 6-speed manual transmission. In addition to the manual gearboxes, the Ford EcoSport 1.5l petrol is also available with an automatic transmission. In its Platinum Edition version, the compact SUV now gets a touchscreen infotainment system and some cosmetic changes.

Engine: The EcoSport comes with a turbocharged 1-litre ecoboost engine that produces 100 PS. Ford claims it can do 18.88 kmpl (petrol) and 22.27 kmpl (diesel). The Brezza is powered by a 1248 cc diesel unit that produces 89 bhp @ 4000 rpm, 200Nm of torque @ 1750 rpm and is paired to a five-speed manual. The TUV300 is powered by a turbocharged 1493 cc diesel engine that can churn out 84-100 bhp, based on the variant, and maximum torque of 240 Nm @ 1600-2800 rpm. It is available in five-speed manual and AMT. The WR-v is likely to come with the same engine options as Honda Jazz – 1.2-litre i-Vtec petrol engine and the 1.5-litre i-Dtec diesel engine. The petrol will be offered with both manual and automatic gearbox options while the diesel will be available with manual only.

Features: The EcoSport come with cruise control, keyless entry and push button start. It has ABS, EBD and six airbags to cover safety, and a reversing camera, rain-sensing wipers and auto-dimming rear view mirror for convenience. The Brezza comes with driver airbags as standard. ABS and EBD is available in all but two variants. Reverse camera is only available in the top variant. It has optional keyless entry and a cooled glove box in the top variant. The TUV300 is also equipped with ABS, EBD and dual airbags for safety. The infotainment system can be connected to a smart phone via Mahindra Blue Sense app. The equipment list of the WR-v has not been revealed yet, however expect it to come with safety and convenience features in line with its competitors.

Price: Prices for Ford EcoSport start at Rs 7.11 lakh and stretch upto Rs 11.29 lakh depending upon the variant and city of purchase. Vitara Brezza comes with a starting price tag of Rs 7.3 lakh, with dual tone variants costing upto Rs 9.9 lakh. The TUV300 is priced at Rs 7.5 lakh for the base variant and Rs 9.8 lakh for the top variant. Pricing for the WR-V has not been confimed yet, however it is likely to sit slightly above the Jazz, which is currently priced at Rs 7.9 lakh for the base variant.
