Audi e-tron, the German car manufacturer's first of many all-electric vehicles, has been unveiled in its world premiere. Audi will have 12 all-electric models in its lineup by 2025 and aims to achieve one-third of its sales from its electric vehicles. These new models include the e-tron and e-tron Sportback, and the rest of the models will comprise of various segments.

Audi e-tron and e-tron Sportback get components from Audi's modular longitudinal platform, which combined with numerous drive system technologies are creating a new class of Audi e-SUVs with electric quattro all-wheel drive. Audi also says that the e-tron's range will be "suitable for long-distance journeys".

The collaboration between development departments at Audi and Porsche will also result in the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which will serve as basis for several Audi model families with all-electric drive spread across various segments.

The PPE was developed exclusively for electric vehicles. Audi is planning both SUVs and classic body concepts and this platforms offers advantages with respect to weight, the package and the proportions of the body.

Audi e-tron gets two braking systems – one standard friction based and the other which uses electric motors to slow the car down. Furthermore, Audi will offer short-term subscriptions with the e-tron. If you don't ususally use cruise control and think you might need it for an upcoming trvel, Audi will lend fit your e-tron with the system for the subscribed period.

Audi AG also plans to add more to its range of plug-in hybrid automobiles. Board Member for Technical Development Mertens explains that in the future, every market segment will include models powered by a combination of electric motors and a combustion engine, that can be charged at an electric outlet. Audi India is expected to launch the e-tron in the country, making it the first electric Audi to launch here.
