The all-new 2020 Hyundai i20 has finally been launched in India. Prices for new premium hatchback range between Rs 6.8 lakh to Rs 11.17 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The i20 in its third generation is all-new and is now longer, wider and offers a longer wheelbase meaning more room in the cabin. Designed to look all sporty, the i20 uses an aggressive exterior design using Hyundai’s latest “Sensuous Sportiness” design language.

The new i20 will offer LED projector headlamps. The styling is very sleek and the design has been made to seamlessly integrate into the front grille for a dynamic look. The front is quite prominent with the large Hyundai signature grille which will be available in an all-black finish. The higher-spec versions of the i20 will have it finished in gloss black of course.

At the rear, Hyundai continues to use its sharp design language. The tail lamps have been designed to feature a ‘Z’ symbol. Something we have seen in other latest-generation Hyundai models as well. On the tail-gate, Hyundai has given the i20 a reflector that runs across the rear width of the car, allowing the vehicle to accentuate its now wider stance. The higher-spec models will feature a chrome strip on it, but it would have been better if it was left bare as in for a more elegant look.

Hyundai offers the new i20 with a range of different wheels. The base ‘Magna’ model will feature 185/65 R15 sized steelies. However, the Sportz variant of the i20 will come with 195/55 R16 alloy wheels. But with the Asta and Asta (O) 195/55 R16 diamond cut alloy wheels pictured above will be offered. 16-inch sizes are the largest that will be available on the model.

The cabin has been redesigned entirely and sports a unique look albeit inspired by many luxury cars. The AC Vents have been made to look like they are seamlessly integrated across the whole dashboard. The HVAC controls and the front of the centre console with the wireless charging pad have been angled towards the driver. The driver also gets a multifunction steering wheel and the design of the wheel itself is something we first saw on the Creta.

In front of the driver, Hyundai has provided a digital instrument cluster with TFT multi-information display for the new i20. The unit is similar to he one found in the current Hyundai Verna sedan. In addition to displaying the speedo, and tachometer prominently, it also displays the prompt for gearshift indicator, Parking sensor warning display, door & tailgate ajar, tyre pressure monitor display and even shows the turn-by-turn navigation.

In a segment-first, the all-new Hyundai i20 comes with a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It uses Hyundai’s own native operative system with BlueLink allowing multiple connected features in addition to voice activation and command. The unit is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well, but cannot be used wirelessly. When it comes to safety features, the new i20 comes with upto six-airbags in addition all the mandatory safety features along with ESC, HSA, VSC and more.

The all-new Hyundai i20 is offered with three engine options. First is the naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol that is good for 83 hp at 6,000rpm, 122 Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. The tried and tested 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine which churns out 99 hp and 240 Nm of torque. In addition to the highly popular 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine 118 hp at 6,000rpm, 172 Nm of torque at 1,500–4,000 rpm.

The i20 is offered with four different transmission options. The 1.2-litre petrol is available with a 5-speed manual or a CVT which Hyundai likes to call it “IVT”. The diesel is only available with a 6-speed manual. The 1.0-litre Turbo-GDI petrol is available with the 6-speed iMT and the 7-speed DCT.
