The Tesla Model S has recently been updated with the ‘Long Range’ variant. As the name suggests, the Long Range is designed to offer a longer driving distance and the Tesla Model S Long range is the EV that delivers the most driving range as it records a range of 603kms.

The second car on the list is another Tesla, this time being the smallest car from their range. The Tesla Model 3 Long Range version is the world’s second best electric vehicle when it comes to driving range. On the WLTP cycle, the Tesla Model 3 recorded 560kms of driving range.

The third vehicle on this list is yet again a Tesla. The Tesla Model X is the third best electric vehicle in terms of driving range, and it is the best electric SUV in the world when it comes to range on a single charge. The Model X Long Range despite its heavy falcon doors is capable of 506kms of driving range on a single charge.

Mercedes introduced an all electric SUV, as their first all electric car. The EQC is the electric equivalent to the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class and is rated to deliver 472kms of driving range in the WLTP cycle making it the fourth best electric vehicle on this list.

With its gorgeous looks penned by one of the greatest automotive designers, Ian Callum, the Jaguar I-Pace makes it to the fifth position on this list. Unlike all other mainstream manufacturers, Jaguar never bothered to try their hand at hybrid technology, and instead went all out electric with the I-Pace. With its 90 kWh battery the Jaguar I-Pace is capable of a maximum driving range of 470kms on a single charge.

The Kia eNiro doesn’t fall too far behind the Jaguar I-Pace in terms of driving range, yet costs far less. While there are standard Niro models, in addition to plug-in hybrid versions, the Kia e-Niro is rated at 453kms of driving range on a single charge.

The Hyundai Kona is the only vehicle on this list which is available in India. The Kona Electric is offered in India for a price tag of Rs 23.7 lakh, and is rated to deliver a maximum driving range of 452kms by ARAI for the 39kwh battery pack version when driving in India conditions. However, the 64kWh version of the Kona is rated at 450km on the WLTP cycle. These numbers evidently allow us to gauge the difference all the other cars would be capable of in ARAI test cycle.

Audi’s first electric car had to be an SUV. In a world that is going mental for the high riding vehicles, the Audi E-Tron is aimed square to capitalise on that. On the WLTP cycle, the Audi E-Tron is rated at 387kms of driving range on a single charge. The E-tron is the next vehicle on this list which is expected to be launched in India and Audi India has confirmed that the E-Tron will be introduced by the end of 2019.

The Nissan leaf has been the best selling electric vehicle till date being in existence since 2010. The second generation model is now already in production is available in two battery pack options. The 62kWh battery pack option being the bigger of the two, the Nissan Leaf in the e+ variant is rated at 384kms of driving range on a single charge.

In 2018, BMW updated its little electric hatchback, the BMW i3, mostly to provide better range. The i3 is offered as a sportier i3s version as well, but both use carbon fibre reinforced plastic construction extensively to keep the overall weight of the vehicle down. This result in a driving range of 310kms.
