Turning 18 years old is a big deal in many cultures. You know how some tribes actually do a ritualistic ceremony to mark 18th birthdays, as it denotes that the boy is now a man. One such ceremony in more civilised societies is earning a driver’s licence. Mercedes Benz has come up with a hilarious new web series ‘Fahrschule Furious’ featuring Mick Schumacher aka ‘Quick Mick’. Yes, he is Michael Schumacher’s son and yes, he is also a racing driver set to debut in the 2017 season of the FIA European Formula 3 Championship. Oh and yes, he is also the brand ambassador for Mercedes Benz. Makes you think, doesn’t it? – ‘What did I do on my 18th birthday?’
German comedian Markus Stoll aka ‘Harry G’ plays Mick’s driving instructor, who gives him beginner’s lesson into what’s what – checking oil level, warning triangle, etc. But, Mick’s ‘first driving lesson’ is not a regular one. He gets to learn on a Mercedes-AMG A45 which packs a meaty 375 hp.
In the first episode, Mick also receives a message from rather a well known personality – Nico Rosberg, who’s also been a Formula One champion and recently retired. The second part of the series features Bernd Marylander, the official safety car driver for Formula One.
Fahrschule Furious (‘Fahrschule’ means driving school in German) will have total of five parts. We’ve got two of them here for you. The rest will be released in the following weeks.
Mick Schumacher began his career in motorsports in 2008, and to avoid any undue attention because of his father’s popularity, he debuted as Mick Betsch, using his mother’s maiden surname. He started off in karting in 2011, and had podium finishes to his name. In 2014, he entered international and national junior championships. By the end of 2014, he completed test drives for Jenzer Motorsport in a Formula 4 racing car.
In 2015, he started entering Formula races under his original name. And now, Mick will be racing in the European Formula 3 Championship at Silverstone race track next month. Formula One fans must big hopes from the young driving sensation, especially with F1 biggies like Ferrari saying that they would roll out a ‘red carpet’ if Mick Schumacher wanted to join their driver academy.
