New car buyers in India prefer SUVs, a shift in trend compared to the time when hatchbacks were the most popular selling cars in India. However, recent sales show that in the list of top 20 bestselling vehicles in November 2023, there are just four hatchbacks, all from Maruti Suzuki.
The best-seller amongst them is the Wagon R, which is also the best-selling car in November. Last month, the carmaker sold 16,567 units, as compared to selling 14,720 units, registering a YoY growth of 13 percent. The Wagon R is followed by the Swift in second, having sold 15,311 units and registering a flat 1 percent growth.
For the rest of the three hatchbacks on the list, the case is not the same, as all of them have registered a negative growth in November 2023. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the third-best seller, registering sales of 12,961 units while witnessing a 38 percent drop in sales.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto comes next, with sales of 8,076 units. The once-best-selling car in India witnessed a 48 percent drop in sales in November 2023. The Alto is followed by the Hyundai i20, with sales of 5,727 units, rounding up the top five best-selling hatchbacks in Indis during November 2023.
