As a tribute to the legendary leader Late Osamu Suzuki, Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) and Maruti Suzuki India Limited, today announced a proposal to establish Osamu Suzuki Centre of Excellence (OSCOE) in India. The announcement was made as part of the remembrance event held today at Yashobhoomi, Delhi, in the memory of Osamu Suzuki, Former Chairman,SMC.

Osamu Suzuki, who passed away on 25th December 2024 in Japan, was instrumental in bringing Suzuki to India by joining hands with the Government backed-Maruti Udyog Limited, back in early 1980s. This led to the birth of Maruti Suzuki which is the largest passenger vehicle manufacturer in the country with a market share of over 40 percent.

This new centre of excellence, set to be established in Haryana and Gujarat, is being established to highlight contribution towards nation-building and for wide propagation of his manufacturing philosophy. The Government of India has already announced Osamu Suzuki will be conferred with Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award in the country.

The proposed OSCOE aims to drive high manufacturing growth in India by enhancing the capabilities of component manufacturers across all tiers. It seeks to boost global competitiveness in supply chains and promote Japanese manufacturing philosophy through infrastructure development and collaborative academic programmes, including lectures, seminars, and discussions.
