Hyundai launched the 2017 Verna only with 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines and it was widely understood that the company would no longer make the 1.4-litre engine on this sedan. However, according to an Autocar report, Hyundai will eventually reintroduce the 1.4-litre petrol and diesel engines for the Verna in India later this year. The company is currently manufacturing the smaller petrol and diesel engines in India and aims to export 80,000 units of Verna powered by these engines. The 1.4-litre petrol engine produces 105 hp of power, while the 1.4 litre diesel engine churns out 89 hp of power. The smaller engine makes the sedan more affordable, positioning it below the 1.6-litre variant.
The 2017 Verna is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol and a 1.6-litre  diesel engine. The petrol variants produce 123 hp of maximum power and 151 Nm of torque. The diesel versions, on the other hand, generate 126 hp of power and 260 Nm. The engines are paired to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The new Verna gets more headroom than the previous generation model as it now measures 4,440 mm in length, 1,729 mm in width and 1,465 mm in height. The Verna has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm and a ground clearance of 165 mm.
The new Verna’s styling is based on the Hyundai’s Fluidic design language philosophy, same as the Elantra. The fifth generation Verna also uses the company’s new K2 platform ‘super body structure’, which makes use of as high as 50 percent advanced high-strength steel. The new Verna is available in four variants- E, EX, SX and the SX (O)  and is offered at a price range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12.61 lakh (ex-showroom).
