Triumph India launched two motorcycles yesterday, the updated Triumph Speed 400 and the all-new Speed T4. At first glimpse, the two motorcycles look the same, apart from the difference in graphics, however, there is a lot more than what meets the eye. They differ in many ways. Let’s take a detailed look.
Triumph Speed T4 vs Speed 400 — Platform and design

The new Triumph Speed T4 and the Speed 400 are based on the same chassis. They share a lot of components like the overall design, round headlight, single-piece seat, 17-inch tyres, and more. However, a closer look reveals some of the cost-cutting choices Bajaj has made with the T4 compared to the Speed 400.
Take the suspension for example — the Speed 400 gets USD units while the T4 gets traditional telescopic forks. The exhaust on the T4 is also different and is tuned to be more throaty compared to the Speed 400, while the seat gets more foam to make it more comfortable.
Triumph Speed T4 vs Speed 400 — Equipment and features

With the suspension difference already seen, the motorcycles share more components such as the rear monoshock, disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS, a semi-digital instrument console, a slipper clutch, USB charging port, and more.
One difference here is on the electronics front, as the Speed 400 gets a traction control system, while the more budget-friendly T4 gives it a skip. Apart from this, the two don’t differ much in terms of the features and equipment they offer.
Triumph Speed T4 vs Speed 400 — Engine specs
Again, the two motorcycles use the same engine, a 399cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed gearbox. On the Speed 400, the engine is tuned to make 40bhp and 37.5Nm of torque, while on the new T4, the same engine makes 30bhp and 36Nm of torque. The engine on the T4 is tuned more towards torque in lower revs and relaxed riding.
