The all-new and highly anticipated Husqvarna Svartpilen 801 has finally broken cover internationally. The Swedish brand released a video on its YouTube channel where a prototype of the new Husqvarna 801 can be seen scrambling on a snow-capped flat track oval and a frozen lake. It is slated to make its global debut on 19 March 2023.
Husqvarna Svartpilen 801: Mechanical specs
As expected, it shares most of its hardware and mechanicals with the KTM 790 range, albeit with a few changes. It is most likely to borrow the same tubular chassis as the KTM 790 Duke. This platform is suspended on upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock, both sourced from WP-Apex.

Stopping duties will be handled by single-disc brakes at each end complemented by dual-channel ABS. Moreover, Svartpilen 801 rolls on a different five-spoke alloy wheel design shod with dual-purpose rubber. Husqvarna says the new Svartpilen weighs only 181 kg, although it isn’t specified if it’s dry or kerb weight.
Powering the Husqvarna 801 will be the same 799cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine as its Austrian counterpart. This motor pumps out 103.5 bhp at 9,000 rpm and 87 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm. Power will be transferred to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-assist clutch. It’s also the first time the Svartpilen brand carries a multi-cylinder power mill.
Husqvarna Svartpilen 801: Features & Design
In terms of features, it gets LED headlights, a fully-digital TFT instrument console, Bluetooth connectivity, a bi-directional quickshifter, and a host of electronic rider aids such as traction control, switchable rear ABS, ride modes, and probably cruise control too.
When it comes to design, the camouflaged test prototype shown in the video looks familiar to the Svartpilen 401 recently launched in India. It gets some signature styling elements such as the integrated tank shrouds, a chopped-off tail section, upswept exhaust muffler, and dual-purpose tyres.
The video further reveals the prototype wearing a headlight grille, a flyscreen, and a bash plate, although it is unclear as of now whether these will be part of the standard fitment or an optional accessory package.

Husqvarna Svartpilen 801: Expected India launch
The Swedish brand is not likely to bring the Svartpilen 801 to India anytime soon unless KTM decides to launch the new Duke 790 in the country. If launched, the new Husky will only be available as a fully-imported CBU model.
