OVERVIEW
The recent figures from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) indicate that India is likely to edge out Germany and Japan by 2027 to become the third largest economy with $5.15T GDP. This also takes into account the growth of the country’s economic backbone – the MSME sector. The indicators to it are, first, the sector’s contribution to India’s GDP which bounced back to 29.2% in FY22. It had declined from 30.50% in FY19 to 26.8% in FY21. Second, thousands of enterprises are growing in size. For instance, 75% of small enterprises grew into medium enterprises - from 3,699 in FY22 to ~6,474 in FY23.

Similarly, micro units graduating to small units also increased from 28,881 in FY22 to 65,140 in FY23. While government support through policy measures continues to evolve for MSMEs, there are some headwinds, other than credit and technology-related, restricting small businesses from scaling up faster, particularly micro-enterprises which constitute 99% of the MSME sector.
FE MSME Leadership Conclave: Navigating Tomorrow’s Opportunities, led by FE Aspire, the SME vertical of FinancialExpress.com, is a pioneering effort to involve the who’s who of India’s 6.3 crore-strong MSME sector and its stakeholders in the pursuit of its growth and scalability. The one-day summit aims to initiate talks beyond the current business landscape to develop a blueprint for achieving future growth by helping promoters understand ways to navigate daily operational challenges.
