overview

Wireless innovation is critical to integrating diverse developing technologies into real-world outcomes across the country. Fifth-generation (5G) cellular technology, which is the next generation of transformative communication technology, has taken the world by storm. The military, too, has incorporated this technology into its daily operations. 5G appears to be increasingly utilized by aerospace, defence, military & homeland security applications across the world.

The ultra-reliable low latency communications (URLLC) capability of 5G enables immersive technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality. When coupled with developments in unmanned vehicles, this will drastically alter how we interact with our surroundings and is already influencing the game-plans of the armed forces.

5G networks offer many advantages for military and government communications. By speeding data rates and boosting bandwidth, it paves the way for new military and commercial applications. For aerospace and defence, improvements in such applications promise enhancements in areas ranging from intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance through command and control, and supply chain/procurement.

In this virtual roundtable, industry experts will discuss how 5G will co-exist for both commercial & defence applications.
