Jagmeet Singh said: "We welcome you. We love you. We support you."
A Sikh politician’s calm response to an infuriating woman during a public event is winning hearts in Canada. Jagmeet Singh, who was heckled by a belligerent woman at an event in Ontario, kept stating kind words while the lady was in no mood to calm down. Jagmeet Singh said: “We welcome you. We love you. We support you.” On the other hand, Singh’s supporters chanted “Love and Courage”, which is also the politician’s campaign slogan. A video of the same is now going viral on social media. NDTV reports that Singh is a member of left-leaning New Democratic Party, or NDP, Canada’s third largest party. Aged 38, Singh is a practicing Sikh who sports a long beard, wears a turban and carries a kirpan.
As seen in the video, the lady intervenes while the politician was addressing what looked a public gathering. Singh was reportedly going to address the programme, “JagMeet and Greet,” “We know you’re in bed with Sharia,” the woman says. “We know you’re in bed with the Muslim Brotherhood,” she adds.
When Singh’s supporters try to calm her, she gets even angrier and even threatens to call the cops. However, rather than addressing her directly, Singh keeps his calm and addresses the crowd. He says, “We believe in love and courage… We don’t want to be intimidated by hate, we will not let hatred to ruin a positive event… So let’s show people how to treat someone with love: We welcome you. We love you. We support you.” His supporters chant “Jagmeet” and “Love and courage” and break into applause.
