With Hillary as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, America will continue to lead in this volatile world, a celebrated top retired general has said, lauding the Democratic presidential nominee. “With her as our Commander-in-Chief, America will continue to lead in this volatile world. We will oppose and resist tyranny as we defeat evil. America will defeat ISIS and protect the homeland. America will honor our treaty obligations,” Gen (retd) John Allen said in his electrifying address to the Democratic National Convention here.
Allen, a retired four-star general of the Marine Corps, who served as commander in Afghanistan and Special US Envoy against ISIS and helped create a multi-nation coalition against it, was joined on the stage by fellow generals and admirals, along with young veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. Among them included an awarded Sikh-American who served in Afghanistan.
“We will lead and strengthen NATO, the Atlantic Alliance, and our allies in East Asia and around the world whom we have solemnly sworn to defend. America will stop the spread of nuclear weapons and keep them from dangerous states and groups. Our armed forces will be stronger,” Allen said. “They will have the finest weapons and equipment. They will have the support of the American people, and the American military will continue to be the shining example of America at our very best,” he said.
“Our veterans will be thanked by a grateful nation, and they will be cared for in the manner they deserve for the sacrifices they have made for all of us, for this great country, and for world peace,” he added.
Observing that stakes are enormous in this election, this election “can carry us to a future of unity and hope, or to a dark place of discord and fear. We must choose hope”.
