The United States of America’s State Department on Wednesday raised concerns about the violation of human rights in the Pakistan occupied Kashmir region. The department has called for fair and valid elections in the region and urged all the political parties in Pakistan to work out their differences in a peaceful manner. The department Mark Toner in an interaction with reporters at his daily news conference informed that the US had had worries regarding the Human Rights situation in PoK and has been reporting it for several years.
The PoK region has long been in a state of turmoil, and recently made news after the people of Gilgit-Baltistan were seen protesting against the rigged elections in the area. The Asian Human Rights Commission had recently presented a report on the atrocities faced by the people of the region due to the misuse of power by the police. The report had said that the police and the judiciary in the region were not duly qualified. The report also mentioned the corruption that had rotted the police, who used torture to commit acts of bribery in the region.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his Independence Day address to the nation, had also talked about the violation of Human rights in the PoK, warning the neighbours to expose them on an international forum. Many leaders in the region have been arrested by the Pakistani forces after they came out openly supporting Indian Prime Minister. The region has been in trouble since Pakistan took over and has been neglected by the authorities ever since. The elections have been reported to be rigged by the ruling party in Pakistan. The people in the region, have time and again come out in protest of the same.
