The White House on Monday released US President Donald Trump’s health report after the president underwent a sudden MRI scan last month, raising concerns about his health. However, according to the now-public medical report, Captain Sean Barbabella, the president’s doctor, confirmed that the POTUS “remains in excellent overall health,” stating that the advanced imaging of Trump’s heart and abdomen came back “perfectly normal.”

Trump’s MRI shows ‘excellent overall health,’ White House confirms

Barbabella, in the memo, explained that the 79-year-old president had the MRI during a physical in October. He wrote that men in Trump’s age group benefit from a thorough evaluation of cardiovascular and abdominal health. “The purpose of this imaging is preventive: to identify issues early, confirm overall health, and ensure he maintains long-term vitality and function,” Barbabella wrote.

The decision to make Trump’s health report public comes amid ongoing scrutiny from Democrats, who  pushed for the results of the scan due to concerns about Trump’s age.

Barbabella’s memo detailed that there is no evidence of arterial narrowing affecting blood flow and no abnormalities in Trump’s heart or major vessels. The report states, “President Trump‘s cardiovascular imaging is perfectly normal. There is no evidence of arterial narrowing impairing blood flow or abnormalities in the heart or major vessels. The heart chambers are normal in size, the vessel walls appear smooth and healthy, and there are no signs of inflammation, or clotting. Overall, his cardiovascular system shows excellent health.”

The doctor, a US Navy emergency physician who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, said the abdominal imaging also came back normal. “All major organs appear very healthy and well-perfused,” Barbabella wrote. “Everything evaluated is functioning within normal limits with no acute or chronic concerns.” He described the MRI as “standard” for an executive physical at Trump’s age.

Previously, the White House had declined to explain why Trump had an MRI in October or what part of his body was scanned. Speaking aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump said it was “OK with me” to release the results. When asked by reporters which part of his body was scanned, Trump said, “I have no idea. It was just an MRI, what part of the body? It wasn’t the brain, because I took a cognitive test and I aced it.

Trump’s past health woes

The US president has often been seen with swollen ankles and bruising on his right hand and has been spotted dozing off during meetings. In July, the White House said he had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a vein condition that can result in swelling in the legs.

Last week, Trump lashed out on a female New York Times reporter after she co-authored an article about his age and physical stamina, calling her “third rate” and “ugly, both inside and out.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt read Barbabella’s memo during a news briefing on Monday. “I think that’s quite a bit of detail in the effort of transparency,” Leavitt said. “The president promised it last night and we have it delivered today.”
