Just earlier this week, US Second Lady Usha Vance and Vice President JD Vance announced that she is pregnant with her fourth child. Hot on the heels of the big announcement, JD Vance took the stage at the National March for Life Rally in Washington, DC, as he sought blessings for the much-awaited new addition to his family.
With the couple looking forward to welcoming their baby boy in late July, Vance would be the first sitting vice president in modern history to welcome a new child while in office. While congratulations were in order, the White House didn’t hold back from spreading joy either. “The most pro-family administration in history,” the official account exclaimed online. “CONGRATULATIONS!”
With even the White House on his side, the American vice president addressed a massive gathering at the 2026 edition of the annual March for Life rally held in Washington, DC, on Friday (US time).

Re-asserting his “pro-life” agenda at the Washington rally, Vance went on to list the Donald Trump administration’s accomplishments for the anti-abortion side, including the expansion of a ban on US foreign aid for groups supporting abortion services.
Having repeatedly expressed concerns about declining birth rates over the years, the Republican politician has long advocated for Americans to have more children. On Friday, he indirectly alluded to his last year’s March for Life address, when he said, “I want more babies in the United States of America.”
At the 2026 March for Life event, his remarks came full circle, as he couldn’t help but beam about the Vance family expecting a son in late July. “Let the record show, you have a vice president who practices what he preaches,” he boasted at the Friday rally.
US child tax credit motivated JD, Usha Vance to have a 4th child?
At one point during his address, Vance jokingly flipped to divulging what further encouraged him and his wife, Usha, to welcome a fourth child into their family. He couldn’t help but praise the Trump administration again, for it was the MAGA leader’s “big beautiful bill” that boosted the maximum child tax credit to $2,200 when the spending bill was signed into law in July 2025.
“When Usha and I were having the debate whether we were going to have a fourth kid, I said, ‘Honey, we’ve got an expanded child tax credit and we’ve got the Trump accounts. We’ve got to take advantage of this stuff,'” JD Vance said during a candid moment at the March for Life rally.
What is the US child tax credit?
Trump’s “big beautiful” spending bill, which was signed into law on July 4, 2025, has a provision that marks an increase to the maximum child tax credit, boosting it from $2,000 per eligible child to $2,200 from 2026 onwards.
The so-called child tax credit is a partially refundable tax credit that helps lower your tax bill dollar-for-dollar. It can be availed by taxpayers with children or dependents under the age of 17. The children in question must cross off certain eligibility requirements, including having a Social Security number and living with the taxpayer for at least half of the year.
In order to claim the full credit for each dependent, parents and guardians must earn $200,000 a year or less, or $400,000 for joint filers. According to CNBC, the credit is decreased by 5% for every $1,000 earned over those thresholds.
In August 2024, Vance suggested that he wanted to more than double the child tax credit. “I’d love to see a child tax credit that’s $5,000 per child. But you, of course, have to work with Congress to see how possible and viable that is,” he said on CBS’ ‘Face the Nation’ at the time.
Back then the benefit was still worth up to a maximum of $2,000 per child.
