US President Donald Trump on Friday warned that any country imposing a digital services tax on American technology companies will face a 100% tariff on all goods exported to the United States. The warning came in a series of posts on his social media platform, Truth Social, where Trump also commented on tensions with Iran and defended his administration’s immigration record.
In his post, Trump accused several European countries of moving closer to introducing digital services taxes that would affect American companies. “Numerous European Countries have been discussing the imminent implementation of a Digital Services Tax on American Companies. Some of these countries are close to actually doing this,” Trump wrote.
He warned that the United States would respond with steep tariffs if those plans moved forward. “Please let this statement serve to represent that any Country that imposes such a Tax will immediately be met with a 100% TARIFF on any and all Goods sent to the United States of America,” Trump said.
He added that the tariff would override any existing or future trade agreements with the country concerned. “This TARIFF will supersede Trade Deals made with the Country, whether implemented, signed, or not. Additionally, the 100% TARIFF will be immediately imposed, if they proceed,” he wrote.
Trump has frequently opposed digital taxes introduced by foreign governments, saying that they unfairly target major American technology companies.
What Trump said about Iran
In another Truth Social post, Trump accused Iran of violating the ceasefire agreement by launching attack drones near the Strait of Hormuz. “The Islamic Republic of Iran shot at least four One Way Attack Drones at Ships transversing the Strait of Hormuz,” he wrote.
According to Trump, one drone struck the upper deck of a cargo ship but failed to stop its journey. “Damage was done, but the Ship was able to proceed on its way. We knocked down three other Drones. Obviously, this is a foolish violation of our Ceasefire Agreement,” he said.
Trump also defended his administration’s immigration enforcement record in a separate post. He claimed his administration had achieved the highest average daily arrest rate by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), along with the highest number of removals over a 12-month period. “It was just announced that… the Trump Administration has the Highest Average Daily Arrest Rate by ICE and CBP… than any other president, by far!” he wrote.
Trump also criticised media commentators and said that comparisons between his administration’s immigration enforcement and that of former President Barack Obama were inaccurate.
