The Telangana government has proposed naming the high-profile road leading to the US Consulate General in Hyderabad as ‘Donald Trump Avenue,’ marking what officials call a global first in honouring a sitting US President.

Announced on Sunday by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s office, the initiative aims to elevate Hyderabad’s status as an innovation hub ahead of the Telangana Rising Global Summit on December 8 and 9. Outcomes from the upcoming summit could cement more investments, boosting jobs in semiconductors and AI.

The state will formally notify the Union Ministry of External Affairs and US Embassy to seek approvals.

Other roads named after global icons

This gesture forms part of a broader “naming spree” to celebrate global icons and tech giants shaping Hyderabad’s skyline. A greenfield radial road linking Nehru Outer Ring Road at Raviryal to the Regional Ring Road will honour Padma Bhushan Ratan Tata, complementing the existing ‘Tata Interchange’, according to a press release issued by Reddy.

The stretch beside Google’s upcoming largest campus outside the US in the Financial District will be named ‘Google Street,’ recognising Google Maps’ contributions.

Microsoft Road and Wipro Junction are also in the works, aligning with Reddy’s vision pitched at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum in New Delhi.

‘Want to turn Hyderabad into a tech powerhouse’

Reddy first floated the idea of naming key roads after corporations turning Hyderabad into a “technology powerhouse” during the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum held last month.

US officials haven’t commented on the gesture

While social media is abuzz with the news, US Consulate officials have not yet commented on the gesture.

Hyderabad’s transformation from IT backwater to global contender continues, with these roads symbolising partnerships.
