Derrick Callella, a man accused of sending an “imposter” ransom message to 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie’s family, had initially been taken into custody. However, even then, authorities didn’t believe him to be linked to the actual demands sent via text messages.
With even the man posing as Guthrie’s suspected abductor to allegedly demand money now released from custody, the big question surrounding the yet-to-be kidnapping identified suspect looms larger.
The mother of “TODAY” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie was reported missing on February 1, hours after spending time with her family on January 31. Members of her family ultimately dropped her back at her house. Suspicions surrounding her absence grew prominent after she didn’t show up for a virtual church service with a friend on Sunday.
Has Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapping suspect been ID’d?
In short, no. But, as pressure builds up on law enforcement to solve the case, investigators have been asking those living near Nancy Guthrie’s house to submit any surveillance video from about four weeks before she went missing, CNN reported.
FBI shares new info on man seen on Nancy Guthrie’s porch
In light of the ongoing investigation, authorities revealed a timeline Thursday of the night she went missing. It disclosed that the doorbell camera at Guthrie’s home in the Catalina Foothills, a community north of Tucson in Pima County, was disconnected at approximately 1:47 am on Feb 1.
The Pima County Sheriff’s department further divulged that software detected a person on camera at 2:12 am, but no video was available. Six minutes later, Guthrie’s pacemaker app showed it had disconnected from her phone.
The FBI’s Phoenix office has also released a description of a potential suspect spotted in images and video from Guthrie’s doorbell camera. In addition to recovering those visuals, the FBI has also raised the initial $50,000 cash reward for information to $100,000.
Today, the FBI is increasing its reward up to $100,000 for information leading to the location of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.
