As the world waits for the Super Bowl, the game is not the only thing people are talking about. The halftime show has become a hot topic, especially with global music star Bad Bunny set to headline. But not everyone is happy with the choice. Legendary NFL running back Eric Dickerson has once again spoken out, and his words are causing major debate.

Dickerson questions the NFL’s decision

In an interview with TMZ, Dickerson made his feelings very clear. He questioned why the NFL would choose an artist who may not perform in English at one of America’s biggest sporting events.

“Why can’t we get somebody right here from home?” Dickerson said. “All these artists right here in the area to play at the Super Bowl. Somebody just go, he speak English.” Dickerson added that he believes the halftime show could be mostly in Spanish, which he feels does not make sense for the Super Bowl audience.

During the same conversation, the topic of Puerto Rico came up. Dickerson acknowledged that many people see Puerto Rico as part of the United States but shared his own view.

“Puerto Rico is not America. It’s a territory,” he said, pointing out that people there cannot vote in US elections. He also admitted this is a serious issue and said many people believe Puerto Ricans deserve more rights. Dickerson made it clear that his comments were not meant as an attack on Puerto Ricans. He said, “I’m not against Puerto Rico,” also noted that every community, including his own, has struggles.

Strong words for the NFL

Dickerson did not stop with the halftime show. He went on to criticise the NFL as an organisation. He called the league “ultra corrupt” and said it will “do anything for money.” He also spoke about the lack of Black head coaches in the league. Dickerson questioned how a league made up of mostly Black players still struggles to hire coaches of color. “The NFL is 80% Black,” he said. “We can call the offense, we can call the defense, but we can’t coach? That makes no sense.”

Dickerson’s message to Bad Bunny

This is not the first time Dickerson has criticised Bad Bunny. Earlier, when asked about the Super Bowl halftime show, he said he did not even know who the artist was. He also took issue with comments Bad Bunny has made about the United States.

“I’m from the US, I love my country,” Dickerson said. “If you don’t like the United States, get your ass out of here, don’t come over here.” Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Martínez, is from Puerto Rico and is one of the biggest music stars in the world. Despite that, Dickerson remains firm in his belief that the Super Bowl stage should feature someone he feels represents America better.
