President Donald Trump's crackdown on immigrants continues with his new policies, that will disappoint many who want to enter American territory. Taking a step forward with his 'America First' policies, Trump has now delivered his new set of hardline immigration policies to the Congressional leaders. But, what's most striking is that the policy is set to shatter the dreams of Indians who want to immigrate with their extended families. The US President's immigration proposals put a curb on Green Card for extended families; thereby, allowing only the spouses and minor children. This comes as a big dilemma for Indian immigrants who want to set up permanent residences for other family members including their aged-parents. The proposed set of reforms will restrict the extended chain of family migration by limiting the family-based green cards. The Trump administration, now, will replace it with a 'merit-based' immigration system where Green-card holders will be chosen on the basis of skills and economic contributions. Although the new plan does not make any reference to H1-B visa curb, it seems to help Indians considering their high levels of education and skills. As quoted by a Hindustan Times report, Trump in his letter to the US Congress said that without these reforms, illegal immigration and chain migration, which severely and unfairly burden American workers and taxpayers, will continue without end. Meanwhile, the new proposals will also include tougher asylum rules, the crackdown on minors illegally entering US territory, beefing up security on the borders etc.
