Two reporters working for news agency AFP have been arrested in Maldives, ANI reported citing sources. The development comes amid the ongoing tussle between the incumbent government and the judiciary in the island nation. Sources have confirmed to the new agency ANI that two Indian reporters working for AFP news agency have been detained in the Maldives. The reason behind the alleged arrest hasn’t been ascertained as yet. Notably, Maldives is currently in the state of emergency and during the period, the police require no warrant to take someone into custody. People have taken to Twitter to react to the development and urged External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to intervene in the matter.
Notably, many nations have criticised the role of Maldives’ President Abdulla Yameen in the ongoing internal crisis in the nation.
