The two-year-old Nigerian kid, who was photographed dying and covered in worms after his family had abandoned him on the streets is reported to have made an excellent recovery. The toddler was pictured in January for the first time while being given a sip of water by an aid worker. The boy, now known as Hope, was then abandoned by his family after they were led to believe that he was a witch. Hope was found on the streets of Nigeria by a Danish woman named Anja Ringgren Loven. Ms Loven has now shared pictures of Hope and his recovery in just 8 weeks.
When Loven had found Hope, he had already spent 8 months living off scraps and somehow surviving in the hostile environment. Loven, on seeing Hope had given him water and covered him in a blanket to take him to the nearest Hospital for treatment. Loven said that Hope was given proper medication to remove the worms from his stomach and blood transfusions were carried out every day to let more blood cells develop in his body. Following two days of treatment, Loven had asked the community to help in Hope’s treatment and she had received 1 million dollars in donations from all over the world.
8 weeks later, in the recent pic posted on her Facebook account by Loven, Hope was seen to be unrecognisable. He had visibly gained weight and was playing with other children.
Loven is known to be the founder of African Children’s Aid Education and Development foundation. The Foundation was started 3 years ago to save children labelled as witches and hence were abandoned to die by the members of their community.
