Some of the Twitter users on Monday saw a “Rape Melania” hashtag in their trending topic list. The unusual trend was sparked after a protestor flaunted a banner, apparently calling to rape US President-elect Donald Trump’s wife Melania Trump. The photos of chilling banner, taken at an anti-Trump rally outside the president-elect’s new hotel in the nation’s capital, were soon circulated online. The weird signs drew condemnations from Trump supporters and opponents alike. However, the trend wasn’t a countrywide hashtag. It only appeared at some user profiles as per the customisation settings. Here’s how the Twitter criticised comments:

The fact that #rapemelania is trending on twitter makes liberals and Hillary supporters look demented, hypocritical, & cruel. Inexcusable.

If Dems really care about us women they will denounce the #RapeMelania sign and tag. The hate and hypocrisy is depressing.

Nation-wide protests broke out in United States of America after Republican nominee Donald Trump was declared winner of US Presidential election on Wednesday. Trump delivered his first address as President-elect on Wednesday night (Indian time). Soon after, anti-trump protests erupted across the US. Associated Press reported that a number of protesters broke through barricades and threw eggs at police outside a hotel where Donald Trump addressed the state’s Republican convention. Several Trump supporters also alleged that they were roughed up but no serious injuries were reported. The anti-Trump protests are still on in United States Of America.
