North Korea raised suspicions of a fifth nuclear test on Friday morning, after seismic termors were felt in the nearby areas. Around North Korea’s nuclear site Punggye-ri, the tremors were felt and it is being speculated that the isolated nation was secretly carrying out their fifth test. The explosion took place at 0030 GMT at surface level.

The magnitude of the quake was said to be around 5. US monitoring group 38 North had showed fresh activity around Punggye-ri, North Korea’s nuclear region.

North Korea had conducted their fourth nuclear test a few days back and that had caused concern among nations like South Korea and China. And the speculations have only added up after the news of quake coming.

“The wave form signal for an explosion and an earthquake have differences,” Rafael Abreu, a geophysicist at the USGS, told CNBC. “Based on those differences, we are confident it was an explosion. But we can’t say with any certainty what type of explosion.”

Intelligence agencies from US had already been predicting that North Korea has been readying up nuclear test site and the test firing early morning is an affirmation to the news.

Japan Government has instructed relevant ministries to look into the matter. The speculations were rife about this happening as US had blacklisted North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, on July 6 for human rights abuses.
