The statue of Italian explorer Christopher Columbus was attacked by vandals and found beheaded at Yonkers park, New York. According to CBS, this is the fourth time in the ten days, when the statue attacked and vandalized. People residing nearby were horrified at the sight of the beheaded statue.

A resident Pat Gamberdella called the police after he noticed that damage caused to the statue, reported Nbcnewyork.com. As per the news reports, the statue was two-foot high and was broken into pieces. This is not the first time, though as earlier also, the Columbus statue was attacked and defaced elsewhere too – in Buffalo, Houston, and Baltimore. The oldest statue of Columbus in Baltimore was vandalized by an activist, reported CBS.

Talking to CBS, Gambardella Jr. said that a small group of people are to blame for the vandalization. “I think these are all copycat actions,” he said. “To have people come out and destroy them because of their personal opinion, it’s very disrespectful and shows us a very bad direction in the way America is going.”
