The American football team New England Patriots have become the first NFL team to purchase two 676 Boeing white body jets to fly for games. In a report published by ESPN, the planes are learnt to have been retrofitted with all first-class seats and some of them even recline completely. The outer body of the planes have the team logo and as many as five Lombaridi trophies printed on its tail. The cost of these planes, depending on miles flown and condition, is somewhere between $5 million and $65 million. The report also said the planes bought by the football team are of extended range and allow the planes to fly non-stop for around 12 hours.

It has also been learnt that the team will use one plane for travel purpose, while the other one will be kept as backup. ESPN further quoted the Patriots spokesman Stacey James as saying that team officials would not be publicly commenting on the acquisitions. It is also being said that Patriots would allow the planes to be rented when they are not in use.

Currently, all major football teams use regular air carriers, however, Delta and American Airline have recently started retiring planes that carries a full team. The American Airlines in 2016 informed various football teams including The Cardinals, Ravens, Colts, Jaguars, Steelers and Dolphins were informed that it would no longer fly them. According to some charter plane companies, round-trip for the 10 road games could cost somewhere around $4 million. Keeping these expenses in mind, it is justified for football teams to follow the notion and start buying their own planes.

It is also expected that having owned planes will help give sportsmen an option of speedy recovery which is expected to be one of the main reasons why Patriots chose to buy these planes.
