Malaysia’s central bank appoints new deputy governor

Malaysia's central bank said on Monday that Shaik Abdul Rasheed Abdul Ghaffour has been appointed as a deputy governor, filling a vacancy that followed the promotion of current Governor Muhammad Ibrahim in April.

Malaysia’s central bank said on Monday that Shaik Abdul Rasheed Abdul Ghaffour has been appointed as a deputy governor, filling a vacancy that followed the promotion of current Governor Muhammad Ibrahim in April.

Abdul Rasheed will be responsible for the financial sector regulation and development, international reserve management and money market operations and foreign exchange administration, according to a statement issued by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).

Abdul Rasheed holds a degree in economics from the University of Malaya and joined BNM in 1988. He previously served as the Alternate Executive Director of the South East Asia Voting Group on the International Monetary Fund’s Executive Board.
