A powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.2, which measured a strong 5 on Japan’s seismic intensity scale (of 1-7) hit the Asian country’s Shimane Prefecture at 10:18 am on Tuesday, as per The Japan Times.

Just 10 minutes later, another quake followed, measuring a lower 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale in Yasugi. According to The Japan News, its magnitude was estimated at 5.1.

The Japan Meteorological Agency did not sound off any tsunami threat in connection with these earthquakes. As per the agency, the eastern part of Shimane ‌Prefecture was the epicentre for the initial earthquake. According to Reuters, Chugoku Electric Power operates the Shimane Nuclear Power Station about 32 km away.
